A Sisterhood Celebration in Tulum: Four Days of Relaxation, Adventure, and Bonding

Updated: Nov 29

This past December, my Line Sister and I jetted off to Tulum, Mexico, to celebrate a huge milestone: our initiation into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. 20 years ago! I’m still glowing from the sun, the laughs, and the pure sisterly love. I needed a proper getaway, and Tulum delivered a slice of heaven.

Living Our Best Life at the Hilton Tulum

We decided to treat ourselves, and our home for the four-day escape was the stunning Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort. Seriously, imagine a luxury sanctuary tucked away on a pristine beach. It was the absolute perfect backdrop for our sorority sister weekend.

Because we believe in treating ourselves (as we should!), I was an Enclave guest, and let me tell you, that VIP feeling hit the moment I stepped off the shuttle. After the journey, which included an hour-long ride from the Cancun airport, I was immediately whisked away to Azulinda, a casual lounge just for Enclave guests. The staff greeted me with a welcome cocktail and said, "Slow down, you're in Tulum now." Their patience and sweet attentiveness during check-in was the exact gentle transition I needed. It was less of a line and more of a hello, tranquility.

Quick Insider Tip: If you book the Enclave, try to snag a room in Casa 1! It was the closest building to the main resort, making those trips back and forth for coffee, the gym and restaurants much shorter.

Getting There: My Secret to Stress-Free Travel

You know I live in Atlanta, so the fact that my flight and arrangements were a breeze through Delta Vacations made all the difference! A direct flight from Atlanta to Cancun? Yes, please! It was so easy and convenient—less travel stress means more time for margaritas. (I’ll drop a link here later if you want to check out their packages—they handle everything!)

Day 1: Spa Day

Once we flew into Cancun and finally settled into the resort, there was only one place to go: the Spa!  I kicked off Day 1 with a truly luxurious deep tissue massage at Conrad Spa Tulum (it's right next door!). The spa is tucked into a lush mangrove forest—it's gorgeous! They blend Mayan and Mexican traditions into their treatments, and honestly, every moment felt intentional and totally restorative. I felt like a new woman afterward.

The evening was filled with catching up, laughter, and that buzzing excitement for the days ahead.

Day 2: Dinner in Red

Later, we headed to Chiringuito Cocomar, this super charming spot known for its fresh and flavorful tapas. We spent the evening sharing plates, sipping drinks, and swapping stories. It was the perfect, evening to reconnect and reminisce about the good ol' days!

Day 3: Visiting the Tulum Ruins

One of the must-do activities was exploring the ancient Tulum ruins. They were only about 30 minutes from the resort! We opted for a shorter 3.5 to 4-hour guided tour because we didn't want to dedicate a whole day to it. The views were breathtaking and it was a deep, meaningful connection to the history of the region. Plus, perfect photo ops! I highly recommend this shorter tour option if you don't have a lot of time and are looking for moderate physical activity.

Sunset Photo Shoot

Before packing our bags, we had to capture the moment! We took a special trip at Golden Hour to Akumal Beach for a photoshoot. The sunset, sands and that unbelievable turquoise water were the perfect backdrop for our photos. (Tip: There was a $7 an entry fee for non-resident visitors. Bring a little cash).

Farewell Dinner and Birthday Celebration

On our final evening, we returned to Maxal Mexican Chop House for one last incredible dinner. It was the ideal spot to toast to another year of life and, of course, sisterhood! This time, we celebrated all the December birthdays in our group. It was the sweetest way to wrap up the trip and share one final, amazing meal together.

My Tulum Takeaway

This trip was so much more than just a vacation. It was a reset button, a moment of true reconnection, and a deep appreciation for the bonds we’ve built over the years. From the VIP treatment at the Hilton Tulum to exploring ruins and beaches, every moment was a treasure.

If you’re planning a group getaway, a girls' trip, or even a solo trip where you just need to relax, seriously look into this resort. And if you want the easiest travel planning ever, Delta Vacations made sure our logistics were totally stress-free. Tulum provided the stunning, all-inclusive experience that made leaving so much harder.
